Jerome Grisanti
Contra Dance Caller

Jerome Grisanti moved to Maryville, Missouri in 2006 and currently dances in the Kansas City and Lawrence communities. He is originally from Louisville, Kentucky, where he began calling in 2001. His enthusiasm for dance comes through in his clear teaching and prompting.

Jerome began dancing in 1977, joining his brothers and sister in the Italian Heritage Dancers under the direction of Marie and Frank Cassady. He continued with the group until it broke up in the mid 1980s.

He rediscovered his passion for dance when he was invited to a contra dance in 1999, and has been dancing on a weekly basis since then.

He enjoys calling square dances for contra crowds, and also enjoys dancing and calling English country dances. One particular pleasure of the English dances has been the chance to get reacquainted with Marie Cassady, who recently turned 100 and is still dancing.

Jerome brings a particular talent to teaching beginners, and has collected a number of dances appropriate for people who do not (yet) dance regularly. He is happy to note that he has been able to welcome many people who now make dance a weekly or monthly habit. He is available for weddings and parties as well as scheduled dance events.
